Home Sweet Home

Finally after a long 15 days in the care of Lahey of Burlington I was paroled on Tuesday. They sent me home with the freaky line/port thing hanging out of my chest. I had to wait until Friday when my platelets were high enough to get it removed. Yesterday we went in got it out and had all my numbers run. All my numbers came back good for where I am in the recovery process.

Overall I am feeling pretty good. My stomach isn’t firing on all cylinders yet but when you nuke all your gut bacteria that’s to be expected. It is better today then it was three days ago so we are see progress. For all the Italian grandmothers reading this blog and I know there are a few, take a deep breath. I am eating fine.

I say I am on parole because I have to go back down to Lahey a couple times a week for check ups ect. If any of my numbers start trending in the wrong direction I will get infusions to get back on track. Being home has been fantastic. I haven’t had that much of an appetite but it has been improved by my wife’s good cooking. I also can not clean, cook food, or do anything that can put me in contact with germs. For the most part I sit around and my wonderful wife takes care of me. It’s a tough life.

The recovery has been a bit more then I originally expected. I thought that after the ten days in the hospital I would bounce right back to where I was at before I left had the procedure. I was apparently very wrong. Between getting my stomach back on track and my fatigue this is going to be a bit more then shaking it off and getting back out there.

That being said the chemo diet has finally kicked in! I got to say it might have some side effects but you really can’t argue with the results. I have dropped about 15 lbs in the last ten days. Again Italian Grandmothers, take a breath, I was weighing in slightly under a Rhino due to the steroids before going in. Trust me I am not going to be wilting away. The wife would not allow it. I will leave you with one of the best parts of coming home.
