Two years in and well I am still here

It’s been awhile. Like over a year awhile. I got to say I didn’t love the fact that after doing my six months of quarantine for the stem cell transplant you people went about licking bats and sent everyone scrambling for cover again. I was planning on coming out of my transplant quarantine and hitting the clubs, going to the gym, start training for the Boston Marathon. Yeah I wasn’t going to do any of those things, I am too old for the clubs and I find groups of people disgusting, the gym is basically a collection of meat heads that like to look at themselves in the mirror, and all marathon people are crazy. Like legit masochist, I rather smash a 2×4 over my head then run 20 miles, at least the pain is quick and not spread out over 5 or in my case 20hrs.

This week is the two year anniversary of the day I met Doctor Doom and he let me know that my relationship with drugs will no longer be recreational. Since getting the stem cell transplant all my blood tests have come back good. The cancer is still there, but it’s got its head down and is sheltering in place. Back pain is still there at times but less and less as time goes on and I continue to do what the physical therapy people told me to do.

I’ve spent the last year hanging in with the wife (thanks again for getting all spready with that virus), mostly just playing guitar and building things. Work has been 100% remote because of the virus proving that even the bad comes with some good. That’s the important thing to remember with these type of things, everything has a good side if you look for it. During the last year if you get a invite to say a baby shower you don’t want to attend? “Sorry I would love to go to your Jack and Jill baby shower because I think that including men in these awful things is a great idea… But I can’t because of Covid” How about curbside pickup? Now my lazy ass can call ahead and I don’t even have to walk the ten steps into the take out place they come out and hand it to me. I know what you are thinking “It’s ten steps!” but you aren’t seeing the bigger picture. When you go in you have to wait standing awkwardly in the corner and telling everyone who walks in the door that you aren’t in line. You can play on your phone but then you look like one of those assholes who stare at their phone in public so you just stand in the corner and try not to make eye contact with the crazy lady wearing pajama bottoms and a “Grab em by the votes” Tee shirt. This is now all avoided with curbside pickup.

My work is already talking about extending the work from home and flex working past the virus to provide better work life balance! It’s great for newlyweds and married couples who’ve been thinking of divorce but not sure it’s worth it. One year in isolation with your spouse will really show you if you need to throw in the towel and try again. It’s been a pleasure quarantining with my wife and yes I do say that because she prepares my meals and I fear that if I saying anything else she might start grinding glass as garnish.

I also opened a Etsy shop to sell some of the stuff I build. It’s basically there to give me a excuse to build things and so I don’t have to field any more “You should sell this stuff” conversations. Check it out if you like something go ahead and buy it. You’ve been in quarantine for a year now you deserve it!

If you do buy something do me a favor and post a review. Etsy isn’t really wowing me with the traffic they send my way and I am hoping that maybe with more reviews it will pick up.

Some of the projects I’ve built since my last post

So that’s my update, been working in my woodshop, playing guitar, watching a ton of netflix and waiting for this craziness to end. I still go and get checked out by the doc regularly and get a shot and some pills to keep the cancer from getting feisty. I haven’t had any side effects from the drug and just been moving on really. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t really have to think about it anymore. Doc says we do this until something changes, could be a year could be ten, who knows. If you people keep up with the makeout sessions with bats followed by spring break we might all be gone by the time it flares up again.

Oh yeah remember when I said I tricked my wife into giving the OK to buy a Mustang? Yeah that happened, this is Loretta she is a 68, straight six Mustang.

The wife and I just got our vaccine so we are starting to venture out a bit again. Hitting breweries and the occasional food place. I miss concerts like you wouldn’t believe and can’t wait to see live music again.

Don’t worry I didn’t forget the real reason people check the blog. Here he is plotting world domination.
