The Harvest has begun!

Busy couple weeks on the treatment front. I passed two out of three of the tests needed get the stem cell transplant. Heart is good, lungs are good, dental is well.. needs improvement. The Dentist recommended deep scaling and all four wisdom teeth removed. Lucky for me the oncologist doc said that the teeth removal were not needed. I do have the joy of the deep scaling and two cavity fillings on the same day next week.

Oh yeah I am live blogging this while getting my blood sucked out of my jugular. The stems cells sorted and then slammed back in. The fun started last week when for days I had to go to the doctor and get four shots in my arm to stimulate stem cell creation. The shots themselves aren’t bad at all. One of the side effects are bone pain. What’s bone pain you ask? Good question and one I wish I didn’t know the answer to. It’s like the ache you get when you have the flu real bad multiplied by ten. It kind of sucks.

Yesterday I came in got some more of the shots and they installed the hose in my neck. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. You go in get a couple pinches of the numbing drug and he does his thing. Prep and everything took about 45 minutes it took him 15 minutes to put it in. They gave me conscious sedation which I thought would make me loopy. I didn’t I felt a little sleepy but that’s it.

Boom there it is and it is even more uncomfortable then it looks

After they slam that in they send me home and for some reason my neck is a little tender. Not really sure why but it’s definitely uncomfortable. Going to call a plumber and see if they can take a look at the piping running out of my neck. Maybe they can see why it is throbbing.

The wife and I went home yesterday picked up the dogs and dropped them at my parents house. I am not sleeping with crazy pants Leroy Brown and a tube hanging out of my neck. Chances are he will think it’s a chew toy and pull it out in the middle of the night. Before we move on to day two of the fall Harvesting Festival of fun lets back up a bit to the weekend.

So mid last week I met with the cancer doc and he gave the all clear for the harvesting and stem cell transplant. I also got a date from phase 3, September 23rd. My wife who reads all the stuff they send you home with told me that there is no drinking two weeks out from the transplant so last weekend was my cut off date. I got to say not real happy with getting shutoff right after opening week of football but what can you do.

I have enjoyed the last couple weeks of no treatments. I finished off my back porch furniture with a pub table build. The wife and I broke that in during Sunday football. I was sore from the aforementioned “bone pain” but I powered through and we had a good weekend.

That’s tater tots with tomatoes pancetta and some green things I am not sure what they are called.

Did I mention that as I am writing this they are sucking my blood out of my jugular?

That machine is just humming away next to me. Fun fact when they hook you up they make everyone put on masks. They don’t want any germs getting into the line they have going right to your neck. Safety first and all that.

I am flipping you all off right now but you can’t tell cause I have the mask on.

By the way there is a hose in my neck and as we speak they are sucking my blood out it like a bad twilight series book? I don’t get any glowing sexy vampires just a machine that sounds like milk slouching around. Nope not freaked at all. Lets just say I am looking forward to them taking this out of my neck. Which isn’t happening today.
