Yep, I am no longer restricted to lift only 5lbs or less. Friday I went to the Ortho Doc and we took new pictures. He said that my back is healing and that at this point I don’t need any more follow up unless something happens. He also lifted my 5lb restriction. Does that mean I can now hit the gym and start doing 200lbs power squats like before I was injured. For starters if you thought I was at the gym doing 200lb squats before this you need to get your head checked. Of course we got the old “listen to your body” and “don’t over do it” speech one last time. 17lb Leroy Brown found out the hard way that I can now pick him up and squeeze him. It is still unclear on if he is happy about this or not.
Pretty good week all in all. Tuesday I went in and got my shot. Pretty sure the nurse hit the muscle (yeah I still have a couple smart ass). Damn shot burned like hell going in and I got what looks like a paint ball welt where she got me. I don’t think we ever talked about the shot. Every week even on my “week off” I get a shot of Valcade, it’s the main reason other then blood work I have to go to treatments. When they get the go ahead to hit me with the juice, the nurse gets suited up in a plastic over smock and double gloves. At first I thought she was afraid that the needle will hit a vein and start spurting my baby killing blood all over her. Last week I asked and you will be relieved to know I was wrong. They aren’t afraid of baby killing blood splatter, the shot is so hazardous that they are not allowed to handle it at all without a mini bio suit just in case it leaks and drips a couple drops on their exposed skin. Yeah this is the stuff they inject me with every week. Feeling real good about this.

Last week I did my treatment, rolled off of the daily steroid and even managed to go into work one day. It was great seeing everyone at work. I had a bunch of people tell me “I look good”. I am starting to think people think cancer makes you ugly. I was handsome as hell before the cancer of course I look good. By the end of the day I was gassed from walking around. I got to get back into office worker shape at least. Which brings us to physical therapy. I guess you can say it is going good. I am going three times a week before work. My PT woman lures me in by starting with a massage then when my guard is down starts making me do squats and leg lifts and god only knows what they call it. Point is she isn’t messing around, which I think is good when I think about it in the safety of my home and hate when I am there trying to keep my curved spine straight while doing squats.
Oh yeah those pictures I got at the ortho doc that showed good healing also showed my spine looking like a donut cut in half. Doc says that I can straighten it by getting more core muscles in order. I guess that means more squats. Fan – fricken – tastic,
I put the final touches on the recording project I was working on. 20 years ago when I was younger dumber and a good 50lbs lighter I recorded a Demo with my band. By “I recorded” I mean I rented a 4 track tape recorded and we recorded everything in my mom’s living room. I had no idea what I was doing and the recording came out terrible. More the half of the vocals were distorted because I had it too high, my guitar tone sounded like cats fighting in a tin garbage can, it wasn’t my best work. A couple months ago I found someone selling that same 4 track recorder and bought it. I found the old tapes, transferred everything to digital and went to work trying to clean up what I can. I even found a drum track of one of our songs we never got around to recording. Below is a link to the no so great selling Remastered “Women and other Catastrophes” EP. There are some bad words so you might not want to rock this on your desk speakers. Or maybe you do, just saying you were warned and I am not responsible for any fallout from your actions. . We aren’t talking about N.W.A levels of swears just a couple sprinkled in for flavor. Also when listening keep in mind that the lyrics were written by 18-22yr old me. That guy was a bit of a dbag.

That about it for this week. I got to run, me and the wife are going to see Brothers Osborne which I am excited about. Standing room only which means standing for a couple hours should be interesting. It will be worth it to see the bearded guy slay the guitar.
If anyone wants more detailed information or to donate to research for Multiple Myeloma here is a link to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. These are the people who are most likely to find a cure. Which means no more blueberry muffins on Tuesday, but also no more shots and drugs that make demon babies. The muffins are good, but not that good.

keep fighting Keith.
